Leadership can be a hard trait to bottle. However, many people know good leadership when they see it, even if they can’t exactly put their finger on how they themselves can get it. According to an expert on leadership, Pat Sweet, all good leaders possess the following traits.

First and foremost, a leader needs to know when to give credit and to take blame. Not only does this build cohesion among team members, but a leader must never forget that to lead means to take responsibility.

Leaders must also be able to push others to succeed and to care about the success of their teammates. This echoes the ability of leaders to turn average results into something truly special that wouldn’t have happened without them at the helm.

Finally, effective leaders must recognise that they are servants of the greater good. A leader should be confident, but humility is another defining characteristic.
