The search to find people that will actively and positively contribute to the direction of a new company is not always straightforward. The approach that is taken by a business to finding new people can significantly determine its success.

Rather than searching for employees, it is recommended that a business searches for entrepreneurs. As well as finding someone that addresses the pre-existing issues – such as the need for a particular skill – it is advantageous to have people on your team that can create solutions before something becomes a problem. Rather than simply doing a job, these people are committed to larger goals.

Breaking from tradition, it is often advantageous to look beyond the experience that a person has and give attention to how they address problems. It is not the answer but the process that is the most accurate indicator of how a person addresses problems.

Before the appropriate ‘fit’ of an employee can be determined, it is fundamental to have a sound and complete understanding of your own company’s culture. Only when company culture is well understood can new people be successfully brought into the team.

However, this does not mean that all employees need to be the same – culture should be allowed to grow and change through fresh perspectives, voices and ideas.
