HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Most organisations acknowledge the importance of leadership training. However, problems arise when employees that attend this training don’t put into practice what they’ve learnt.

Experts have estimated that only 20-30% of ideas learned in this type of training are actually put into practice by participants. When you look at these statistics, it’s clear that these training courses and workshops aren’t having the lasting impact on their attendants that they should.

Dave Ulrich and Norm Smallwood, co-founders of leadership development company RBL Group, have outlined three important questions when commencing their training to engage with participants.

  • How important is leadership for the success of your business, on a scale of 1-10?
  • What attributes do you need to be successful in a leadership role?
  • How long have you been aware that you want to improve these behaviors in yourself?

Ulrich and Smallwood claimed that it’s not learning about how to be a more effective leader which should be management’s primary concern, but how to make sure what is learnt is put into practice.
